Detailed description of each checkpoint
Shenzhen Bay checkpoint
The inspections in Hong Kong and Shenzhen are completed in the same area ("two inspections in one place"), theoretically saving one stop and waiting. The daytime efficiency is one of the highest among several checkpoints.
Suitable conditions for traveling to Shenzhen Bay:
- Destinations are Nanshan, Shekou, Qianhai and Baoan Airports
- Travel during the day, within 06:30–22:00
- Departing from Hong Kong Airport (taking Shenzhen Bay which is 20–30 minutes closer than Huanggang)
Unsuitable situations:
- Late night travel (closed after 22:00)
- The destination is in eastern areas such as Luohu and Longhua (detour)
Huanggang checkpoint
The only 24-hour checkpoint, the only option for late night or early morning travel. It is a little slower than Shenzhen Bay during the day, but there is almost no queue late at night.
When Huanggang is suitable:
- Traveling after 22:00
- Destinations are Futian, Luohu, and Longhua
- Late night flight landing pick-up
Liantang checkpoint
Opened in 2020, it is designed for vehicles and has fewer pedestrian passengers, so the vehicle access is more efficient.
When Liantang is suitable:
- Destinations are Longgang, Pingshan, Yantian, and Dapeng
- Departing from the eastern New Territories of Hong Kong (toward Shatin and Ma On Shan)
Busy hours at the checkpoint
There is a heavy flow of people at the checkpoint during the following periods, and the border clearance time may double:
- Morning peak on weekdays: 07:30–09:30 (large number of cross-border commuters)
- Weekday evening peak: 17:30–20:00
- Weekend Afternoon: 14:00–19:00 (shopping and entertainment passenger flow)
- Before and after holidays: The first and last two days of long holidays in both places are the most congested
How does the driver decide which checkpoint to take?
Under normal circumstances, the driver will choose the fastest checkpoint route based on your destination. If the destination is in Futian, you usually take Huanggang or Shenzhen Bay, depending on the time period; if you are in Nanshan, you almost always take Shenzhen Bay; if it is late at night, no matter where the destination is, Huanggang is the default choice.
You do not need to specify a checkpoint, but if you have a special preference (for example, you know that a certain checkpoint is under construction that day), tell us when making a reservation and the driver will cooperate.

FAQ
Questions travellers ask
Can I request to go through a certain checkpoint?+
Yes. When making a reservation, explain that the driver will follow your request, but if the real-time traffic conditions show that the checkpoint is seriously congested, the driver will inform you in advance and suggest whether to change to another one.
Is the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge considered a checkpoint?+
The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge connects Hong Kong and Zhuhai/Macau, and is not a checkpoint between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Go to Zhuhai and Macau via the bridge, and go to Shenzhen via the above checkpoints.
Will the checkpoint be temporarily closed?+
Not under normal circumstances, but opening hours may be adjusted under special circumstances (typhoons, security at major events, etc.). You can check the official website of the Hong Kong Immigration Department for confirmation before traveling.
