What is the current Hong Kong rule?

Since 1 November 2025, a child under eight in a private car must use a child restraint unless at least 1.35 metres tall. Children aged eight or above, or at least 1.35 metres tall, must use a suitable restraint or adult seat belt. Check the Transport Department for the current rule.

What information is needed for a child seat?

For each child, send age, height and approximate weight, plus the number of children and journey date. The exact arrangement is then confirmed for the vehicle.

Can I request the seat on pickup day?

Do not rely on that. A child seat can change the vehicle, seating layout and luggage capacity, so request it with the initial enquiry.

Does the stroller count as luggage?

Yes. Send its folded dimensions and include it with every suitcase and cabin bag when the vehicle capacity is checked.

Since 1 November 2025, a child under eight must use a child restraint in a private car in Hong Kong unless the child is at least 1.35 metres tall. A passenger aged eight or above, or at least 1.35 metres tall, must use either a suitable restraint or an adult seat belt. The Transport Department also says height and weight—not age alone—should guide the choice of product.

A cross-border trip also enters Mainland China, so do not treat one sentence on a website as legal advice for the whole journey. Before paying, ask the operator to write down what restraint will be fitted and whether it is available on your travel date.

A folded stroller can use more space than a suitcase

A seven-seat Alphard includes the driver, so there are at most six passenger seats. Fit one or two child restraints and the seating choices narrow. Add a full-size stroller, two 28-inch suitcases, cabin bags and a changing bag, and “six passengers fit” no longer answers whether the whole family can travel comfortably.

The useful evidence is one photo showing every suitcase and the stroller folded. If the loading looks marginal, decide before pickup whether to reduce luggage or use a second vehicle; the airport kerb is the worst place to discover the plan does not work.

Four lines to get in writing before payment

If the reply is only “no problem”, the restraint and seating plan have not been confirmed. Ask for the exact product, passenger layout and luggage check in writing before payment.

What is the make/model or approved standard of the restraint?
Does its stated height and weight range match this child?
How many adult passenger seats remain after installation?
Have the stroller and every suitcase been included in the vehicle check?

If you bring your own restraint

Send the model and label photos before booking, confirm compatibility with the assigned vehicle and agree who will install it using the manufacturer’s instructions. Bringing a seat does not by itself confirm that it can be fitted in the planned passenger position.

Keep the fitting instructions available on travel day
Tell the coordinator if a child needs help walking through the checkpoint
